CNN political analyst sends warning to Democrats | TV Shows

CNN’s political data analyst Harry Enten has sounded the alarm for Democrats, cautioning that their prospects of reclaiming Congress in the 2026 midterms are dwindling.

“The bottom line is that Democrats are behind their 2006 and 2018 cases when it comes to the generic congressional ballot,” Enten remarked on CNN Wednesday.

Currently, Democrats have a slim 2-point lead over Republicans in the generic ballot, which pales in comparison to the 7-point advantage they enjoyed prior to their midterm wins in 2006 and 2018. “It’s not just on the generic ballot where Democrats are behind their 2017 and 2005,” Enten continued.

He pointed out that, looking at individual seats, Republicans appear to have more opportunities for net gains at this stage.

Enten also dismissed the notion that Republicans are destined to fail in November due to President Donald Trump‘s low approval ratings or the recent enactment of a contentious legislative package.

Democrats are faced with a challenging task to regain control of the House. They require a net gain of merely three seats to break the GOP majority.

The Senate map presents even greater challenges, with crucial races taking place in states that lean Republican.

For Republicans, the objectives are clear. They’re advocating for significant policy victories such as extensive tax cuts, increased funding for immigration enforcement, and new restrictions on social safety net programs.

On the other hand, Democrats criticize the GOP’s legislative record, viewing it as a reduction in healthcare access, a favor to wealthy Americans through tax breaks, and a setback to climate change and labor initiatives.
