BBC drama makes fans forget Downton Abbey as | TV Shows

This BBC period drama has acquired widespread acclaim from viewers, with quite a few fans declaring it superior to Downton Abbey. Wolf Hall is a British tv sequence tailored from two of Hilary Mantel’s celebrated novels Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies.

The fashionable drama charts the journey of Thomas Cromwell – the highly effective adviser to King Henry VIII. The six-episode sequence initially premiered on the BBC in 2015, helmed by BAFTA-winning director Peter Kosminsky and introduced to screen by famend screenwriter Peter Straughan.

The series features Mark Rylance, recognized for Bridge of Spies, portraying Thomas Cromwell and Damian Lewis, most famous for his performance in Homeland, who embodies the notorious King Henry VIII in the production. Wolf Hall has been hailed as a critical triumph, securing eight Emmy Award nominations alongside three Golden Globe nods, ultimately claiming the prize for Best Miniseries or Television Film.

The show boasted an outstanding 98 percent rating from critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. The platform’s consensus declares Wolf Hall as “Beautifully filmed and brilliantly acted, Wolf Hall masterfully brings Hilary Mantel’s award-winning novels to life.”
