Donald Trump reveals dramatic plan for new | Political News

Donald Trump hinted at a title change for the Department of Defense as he spoke to reporters in the Oval Office on Monday.

“And so, Pete, you started off by saying the Department of Defense. And somehow, it didn’t sound good to me,” Trump said, addressing the protection secretary, who stood behind him on his left.

“It didn’t sound good to me. It didn’t sound good. Defense. What are we defense? Why are we defense?” he rambled.

“So, it used to be called the Department of War, and it had a stronger sound, and, as you know, we won World War I. We won World War II. We won everything,” the Republican president continued. “Now, we have a Department of Defense. We’re defenders. I don’t know.”

He then recommended that the members of his Cabinet standing behind him, including Hegseth, “take a little vote” and change it to its authentic title, the Department of War. He said that doing so would guarantee that the U.S. would start profitable more wars.

“That’s coming soon, sir,” Hegseth chimed in.

“You let me know if you want to do it,” Trump continued, before referencing Hegseth’s earlier introduction of himself. “It just sounded bad. He said, ‘Sir, on behalf of the Department of Defense…’ Defense? I don’t want to be defense only. We want defense, but we want offense, too, if that’s OK.”

“So, you’ll make a decision,” he continued, now talking to Hegseth. “As the Department of War, we won everything. We won everything. And I think we’re going to have to go back to that.”

The feedback got here as Trump signed two govt orders on Monday, the first outlawing the desecration of the American flag and promising prosecution for those who do so, and the second eradicating “cashless bail” amid his Washington, D.C., crime crackdown.

Trump beforehand suggests title change for Hegseth

It’s not the first time the president has recommended such a title change, either — back in June, forward of a press convention that featured Hegseth, Trump recommended that the Cabinet member be referred to as the “Secretary of War.”

The remark got here as Trump teased what he described as an “interesting and irrefutable” Pentagon press convention following Operation Midnight Hammer — the airstrikes that have been designed to wipe out Iran’s nuclear program.

“Secretary of Defense (War!) Pete Hegseth, together with Military Representatives, will be holding a Major News Conference tomorrow morning at 8 A.M. EDT at The Pentagon, in order to fight for the Dignity of our Great American Pilots,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social at the time. “These Patriots were very upset.”

“After 36 hours of dangerously flying through Enemy Territory, they landed, they knew the Success was LEGENDARY, and then, two days later, they started reading Fake News by GWN and The Failing New York Times,” he added. “The News Conference will prove both interesting and irrefutable. Enjoy!”

That convention, which featured Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, offered particulars on the strikes, including how the operation was carried out — with pilot crews flying for 36 hours straight to attain their targets.
