Ben Griffins caddie gives verdict on Ryder Cup | Golf News

Ben Griffin appeared in just one match before Sunday singles during the Ryder Cup, but his caddie had nothing but reward for Keegan Bradley’s selection to sideline him for both Saturday classes before Europe sealed victory on Sunday. Griffin and Bryson DeChambeau got here up short against Tyrrell Hatton and Jon Rahm in Friday morning’s foursomes.

Following that defeat, Bradley selected to bench Griffin until Sunday singles, where he would go on to beat Rasmus Hojgaard. Bradley opted to stick with Collin Morikawa and Harris English for Saturday morning’s foursomes despite the pair also struggling defeat on Friday morning to Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood.

Despite Griffin being sidelined after the loss, his caddie Alex Ritthamel revealed to the Quiet Please! Podcast that he harbored no resentment toward Bradley’s selection.

“He was awesome. He was so great. It was just about the team. There was no players, caddies. Everybody, we are a team. And he was super inspirational,” he said.

“He will tell you he’s a big video guy. He made a lot of videos for us. He was open. Even prior to the week when we had meetings, you’re getting him tearing up,” said Ritthamel.

Griffin boasts two profession victories and 11 top ten showings on the PGA Tour. He also earned his Ryder Cup debut at Bethpage Black in New York alongside J. J. Spaun, Russell Henley, and Cameron Young.

“He was awesome. He did a great job when it came to the team side of it and making sure that everyone was feeling good and ready to go,” said Ritthamel. Griffin, however, did not uncover that he would not be competing on Saturday until he confirmed up at the course that morning.

“It was tough. We were told leading into the event that, as of now, we’re going to play Friday, Saturday afternoons and then play Sunday.

“Ben did not play unhealthy on Friday, I would not say he performed great. And it was robust because we had been at the golf course when we came upon.”

With the unwavering encouragement from spectators passing by as Griffin practiced on the putting green, being sidelined only became more difficult.

“We did not know until three hours-ish before tee off that we weren’t enjoying. So I feel it truly obtained harder as the day went on, not because of the rating but we went out to observe, to warm-up, and no person fan-wise knew,” Ritthamel continued.

“So he is on the inexperienced hitting putts and it was every 30 seconds, people had been going by going, ‘come on Benny, we need you this afternoon, get the group going’. It was non-stop. He’s just strolling by, ‘I want, I want, I want’. It was robust,” said Ritthamel.
