House Advances Stopgap Funding Measure, but Senate

On Tuesday evening, the House handed a stopgap measure that calls for the funding of the federal authorities until December 4th. That’s after the midterm elections, which suggests Republicans may avert a pre-election authorities shutdown, assuming the measure passes the Senate.

But that will not be a finished deal, of course, contemplating Democrats would love nothing better than to instigate another shutdown to strive and pin on President Trump and congressional Republicans forward of November:

Sen. Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) did not sound super-optimistic that the Senate would take motion shortly on the CR:

Its path in the Senate is murky at best.
