Dave Allen actually isn’t somebody who has always accomplished issues by the ebook. The boxer is set to face Arslanbek Makhmudov in Sheffield this weekend, but his historical past is chequered to say the least.

“I went for the interview and a week later I bought a call asking me to be at a sure high college at a sure time. I regarded at my girlfriend and said, ‘Do I’ve to go?’ and she said, ‘Yeah, you are going’. Later that week I was given a sheet of paper with the teachings on it and told the work could be in the classroom and that I was to set it out.”

Allen admitted to being “scared” of his upcoming opponent Makhmudov. It’s easy to see why, given the towering Russian gives the impression of a James Bond villain as opposed to a boxer.

On the decision to face off against the 6ft5in machine, he told talkSPORT: “Sometimes I’ve some loopy concepts. For instance, with the bear, my mates gave me the concept, and it was new for me [so I did it]. For me, it was attention-grabbing. All my life, from when I was a child, I was difficult myself all the time.

“For instance, if any individual told me, ‘Don’t contact the electrical energy, because it can kill you,’ I might go and contact it. If somebody says I can not do it, I’ve to do it.”
