Former U.S. Open Champion Graeme McDowell admits he is craving for a comeback to golf’s grandest phases, confessing “I miss the majors, I miss the access to those and obviously it’s an amazing prize.”

McDowell, who secured the U.S. Open crown back in 2010, hasn’t competed in a major championship since the 2020 Masters Tournament. He is not the only LIV Golf insurgent searching for a return to Augusta and presently making strikes to obtain it.

“I played the Masters in 2020, that was the last time I played in a major,” said McDowell. Now the 46-year-old has found renewed drive to pursue another major title.

He’s focusing on the forthcoming Link Hong Kong Open, which is an event offering a route back into both the Masters and The Open Championship in 2026.

“There has been some great champions at Fanling and it is a golf course that I believe I can play well on, and have played well in the past,” said McDowell on the venue. “So clearly I’ll be going there next week ready to go and obviously I will be highly motivated,” he added.

While he says he relishes his schedule on the LIV Golf League, the previous Ryder Cup star admitted, “obviously I love what I’m doing, I love the LIV Golf schedule but I do miss the big tournaments.

McDowell isn’t satisfied with being absent from the major tournaments. McDowell’s career is filled with significant achievements, such as his U.S. Open win and the decisive point he scored for Europe in the 2010 Ryder Cup. As major tournaments come up, McDowell is eager to seize the opportunity.”

“I really feel like I must have performed perhaps a dozen tournaments at Fanling over the years. I like the town, I like the food and the expertise of Hong Kong. I feel the golf course, it is clearly such an old-school take a look at, a traditional Asian golf course.

On October 30, McDowell goals to claw his approach back into major competition, with the first prize being a hefty $360K. He’ll be competing against big names, including reigning champion Patrick Reed.
