RedState Sports Report: The Dodgers. Again. | Political News
Greetings from the sports activities desk situated someplace below the main deck of the Good Pirate Ship RedState. Lots to catch up on, but first, let’s see what Sammy the Shark and Karl the Kraken are working on …
It’s clearly not watching their weight.
Anyway, the World Series has mercifully concluded, with the Los Angeles Dodgers once again triumphing, this time over the Toronto Blue Jays. I’ve been seeing some breathless fanboi write-ups declaring this the Greatest World Series EVAH! I’m not shopping for it. Toronto went out of its method in Games Six and Seven to play basically unsound baseball in crucial moments, and Los Angeles was more than delighted to settle for its largesse. I’m not placing the Dodgers down. They are the best workforce in baseball, bullpen however, and they did what they needed to do to earn the title. I’m placing the Blue Jays down for constantly failing to come through when victory was within their grasp. They repeatedly failed to convey runners home in scoring place, nor did they advance runners to put them in a better scoring place. Toronto has no one to blame but itself for strolling away empty-handed.
Now, an attention-grabbing low season begins. While there are no Shohei Ohtani-level megastars on the free agent market, there’s a lot of out there expertise that could make any workforce prepared to flash the money immediately better: Cody Bellinger, Kyle Schwarber, Kyle Tucker, Ranger Suarez, and more. Should the Dodgers do what they usually do, specifically pay whatever they really feel like for whoever they really feel like, it’ll only add to the screeching refrain that baseball’s current wage construction is untenable due to the radical distinction in income between big and small market groups. As I discussed on October 30, 2025, it’s not that Los Angeles is breaking the foundations. It is that the current guidelines permit for such inequity, and also permit groups that are evidencing no great curiosity in profitable to continue puttering along with minuscule payrolls and even more minuscule profitable percentages, yet still turning a good-looking revenue for their house owners.
The gamers couldn’t care less about their own as long as the delusion holds that sooner or later, every workforce will start spending on a Dodgers or Mets-like stage. They won’t. In addition to refusing to talk about a wage cap, the gamers are equally adamant about not having a minimal workforce wage base established. Never thoughts how the other three major sports activities have amply demonstrated that a wage ceiling, mixed with a flooring, doesn’t preclude top gamers from getting top greenback while benefitting all gamers throughout their respective leagues. Or, how such buildings permit all groups to compete regardless of location. This is probably to the chagrin of some; for instance, one can think about the NBA was less than enthralled this past spring when the championship got here down to the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Indiana Pacers as in contrast to, say, the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks. But of such is real life. The big metropolis and the intense lights don’t routinely get a free go to getting in any respect its concrete and neon coronary heart needs, as anybody who has ever watched a Hallmark Channel Christmas film can attest.
So, baseball appears headed toward a vicious lockout following the 2026 season, said season most seemingly ending with the Dodgers changing into the first workforce since the 1998-2000 New York Yankees to win three championships in a row. Like the Dodgers of today, the Yankees of that time have been the best workforce money may buy. Unlike what will most seemingly befall the Dodgers of today, the Yankees had the chance to go for 4 in a row but misplaced the 2001 World Series to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Los Angeles won’t be in the 2027 World Series as there won’t be one.
