Jake Paul risking brain damage as friend worried | Boxing News

Former UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley has expressed severe considerations about Jake Paul’s upcoming conflict with Anthony Joshua. Paul is set to face the previous two-time heavyweight champion in an eight-round skilled heavyweight bout on December 19 in Miami. The American has restricted expertise competing in boxing’s premier division, having defeated Mike Tyson on factors last November.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer usually competes at cruiserweight, and returned to that weight class for his most current outing in June against former champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Paul secured a factors win that night, taking his skilled file to 12-1. During his boxing profession to date, the 28-year-old has predominantly confronted former combined martial arts fighters, such as Anderson Silva, Nate Diaz and Tyron Woodley. His encounter with Joshua represents Paul’s first real problem in the ring, and has sparked widespread concern about his wellbeing.

The American’s close friend O’Malley has shared his ideas on the profitable showdown in Florida this festive season.

The UFC star admitted his fears for Paul after witnessing the ‘Problem Child’ stand reverse Joshua last week. “Did you see the size difference between Anthony (and Jake)? Did you see how f****** huge that guy is? 6’6, 265,” O’Malley said on his YouTube channel.

“This fight, as a friend of Jake is like, I’m scared. Getting knocked out by someone like that changes lives. It doesn’t change just your career path. It can change lives. It can change the way you think. Getting knocked out, bad concussions are scary. You have one f****** brain, and he’s willing to go out there and fight. Like, that is absolutely f****** insane. Like, it scares me.”

Despite Joshua needing to shed weight to fulfill Paul’s necessities and make their contest official, the previous champion stays a real heavyweight who insists he is still in his prime. The ‘Problem Child’ enters the Miami showdown as a appreciable underdog, yet O’Malley reckons even a factors defeat would signify a respectable end result for the social media star.

“If Jake goes to a decision and loses a decision to A.J., I think that’s a win. That’s a massive win. If he goes out there and goes eight, three-minute rounds with Anthony Joshua, that is a win,” O’Malley said. “Jake has got a massive nutsack. That’s insane, and he’s confident, sounds confident.”

Heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma has also voiced his considerations, urging Paul to “fire his advisors.” Speaking to BBC Sport, he said: “Jake Paul needs to fire his advisers. [The] people that tell him to make these fights, because that’s not good.”

He continued: “Obviously, there’s making money, but then at the same time, it’s just absurd. I don’t think Jake Paul’s bad for boxing, I think he is good. I like Jake Paul. You see what he’s doing with women’s boxing as well, and I’m not saying he shouldn’t take the fight.

“I just really feel that he wants to weigh the outcomes. Like, I do not know £50million [vs] my health. Cars and watches [vs] cannot say my identify. Is it price it? And if he desires to battle Anthony Joshua, that’s not my life – go and do it. But me personally, if I had been Jake Paul’s brother, I’d be very worried.”
