The Traitors US to make major change after brutal cast | UK News

The Traitors US is taking steps to mirror the UK sequence more carefully, with the American programme making a vital change to casting forward of its upcoming season.

Both variations of the favored format are filmed consecutively at Scotland’s Ardross Castle and ceaselessly function similar challenges each sequence. Claudia Winkleman presenting the BBC model while Alan Cumming hosts its American counterpart.

However, they primarily differ in their casting method – as the UK programme options abnormal members of the public, whereas the NBC sequence recruits celebrities, reviews The Mirror.

Now, the American programme has announced it’s recruiting members of the public for its next season, posting on X: “The castle is calling…Apply now for @NBC’s The Traitors. thetraitorsus.com.”

The casting call continues: “NOW CASTING The Traitors. A BRAND NEW season for NBC, this time you don’t have to be a celebrity to play!

“We’re trying for good, intelligent and strategic on a regular basis people to compete in the final word sport of trust and treachery. Are you a FAITHFUL or are you a TRAITOR? APPLY NOW.”

Applicants must be over 21 and possess a valid passport – with those wishing to participate needing to be a US citizen or hold a valid US visa. Whilst NBC has not disclosed the reasoning behind the major change, it comes as little surprise given how successful the UK’s civilian version has remained.

Last week, it emerged that The Traitors UK’s current series reached a fresh peak in overnight ratings, attracting a maximum audience of 8.1 million viewers during Harriet Tyce’s elimination episode. The Traitors’ standard series has consistently featured ordinary members of the public, with the BBC broadcasting a celebrity version last year showcasing Alan Carr, Stephen Fry, Celia Imrie and other famous faces.

In contrast, the NBC adaptation of The Traitors has exclusively starred celebrities, spanning reality personalities like Love Island’s Maura Higgins and Real Housewives Brandi Glanville to unexpected choices such as former Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow.

This follows widespread viewer criticism of the programme for its divisive casting of Friends actor Michael Rapapport, who feuded with Maura and fellow contestants in a discussion that audiences labelled “ugly and imply spirited”.

During one moment, Michael informed Colton Underwood – who revealed his homoinappropriateity five years ago – that “no one in this room can be better at holding a secret than” him, with Colton understanding this as a reference to his coming out experience. Whilst Michael refuted this interpretation, Maura responded: “Very low blow.”

The ongoing series features Dancing with the Stars’ Mark Ballas, comedian Ron Funches and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Rinna amongst other celebrities. They are all competing for the opportunity to claim up to $250,000 (£186,200) compared with the £100,000 prize available on the BBC edition.

It’s the final week of the UK version, with just seven contestants remaining in the game. Stephen Libby and Rachel Duffy are the only Traitors still standing after Hugo Lodge and Secret Traitor Fiona Hughes were banished earlier in the competition.
