Trump made the announcement during an interview with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo while in Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum. During the interview, the president reiterated his declare that the U.S. needed a presence to preserve national security.
“Everything comes over Greenland,” explained President Trump. “If the dangerous guys start capturing, it comes over Greenland.”
“It’s pretty invaluable. It’s amazing. You know, Ronald Reagan had the idea a long time ago, but we didn’t have any technology at that point,” added Trump. “The concept was great, but there was no technology. Now we have unbelievable technology.”
“So what are we talking about? An acquisition of Greenland?” pressed Bartiromo. “Are you going to pay for it?”
“I mean, we’re talking about … it’s really being negotiated now, the details of it, but essentially it’s total access,” he said. “There’s no end, there’s no time limit.”

“Based upon this understanding, I will not be imposing the Tariffs that were scheduled to go into effect on February 1st,” wrote Trump. “Additional discussions are being held concerning The Golden Dome as it pertains to Greenland.”
Trump continued: “Further information will be made available as discussions progress. Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and various others, as needed, will be responsible for the negotiations — They will report directly to me.”
