Jelly Roll’s image has taken a hit after the Save Me singer was announced as one of the performers at Kid Rock’s Rock The Country competition, an event already drawing criticism because of Kid Rock’s outspoken political opinions.

Kid Rock, whose real title is Robert James Ritchie, has been vocal about his MAGA affiliation for years. His Rock The Country competition is set to stop in eight cities this summer time, including Bellville, Texas, and Ocala, Florida. Even before the full lineup was revealed, the tour sparked backlash online, with critics pointing to Kid Rock’s political stance. That criticism rapidly unfold to the artists who signed on, including Jelly Roll.

News of Jelly Roll’s involvement prompted a wave of response across social media. On TikTok, one upset fan merely wrote, “Not Jelly Roll.” Another added, “So disappointed in Jelly Roll,” while a third replied, “How are you disappointed? He’s always been on that side.”

The dialogue continued on Reddit, where many customers claimed they were not stunned at all. “I always just assumed this dude was MAGA,” one consumer wrote. Another commented, “He’s been singing Christian worship music lately, so, yeah. Of course, he’s MAGA.” A 3rd added, “He went country a few years ago, and his fans are just now figuring out he’s MAGA?”

Others piled on, with one writing, “Seemed pretty obvious,” and another joking, “You’re kidding me, the guy with 4th grade reading level lyrics and face tattoos, the ex-meth addict is MAGA? I could have never guessed.”

Still, not all fans were satisfied that Jelly Roll totally aligns with MAGA politics. One wrote, “I feel the same. I have loved Jelly Roll from the get-go,” including, “I don’t necessarily think he aligns with MAGA, and I’m guessing he just sees this as a big party. Still highly disappointed though.”

Another fan introduced his spouse into the dialog, writing, “I really believed in Jelly and Bunnie. But it became clear [they] are full on MAGA. It’s a [expletive] shame,” referencing Bunnie XO, whose real title is Alisa DeFord. “I’m shocked that Jelly Roll is participating. Disappointed,” another added.

Others were far less sympathetic. “Sorry, but Jelly Roll was a red flag from the get-go,” one particular person wrote, while another agreed, “I’m shocked people are surprised by this. He has MAGA vibes.” A different consumer said, “I know very little about jelly roll, but he’s always screamed MAGA,” while another requested, “Why are people even acting surprised that Jelly Roll is MAGA?”

The backlash has raised questions about whether or not Jelly Roll would possibly observe in Ludacris’s footsteps, who was initially scheduled to carry out at the competition but later pulled out amid intense fan criticism. As of now, Jelly Roll stays on the lineup alongside Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, and Nelly.

Disappointment also spilled onto Threads, where one fan commented under a competition poster, “Oh man. Jelly Roll? I’m heartbroken.” Another wrote, “I can’t believe I defended @jellyroll615 and then this BS… apparently Ludacris dropped out when he saw the WAVE of comments. This is a full-on MAGA train, and I’m so saddened by a lot of these names, but not surprised.”

Some fans pointed to a second from 2024 that they consider signaled this consequence, when Jelly Roll appeared visibly comfortable while shaking palms with Donald Trump, then president-elect, at a UFC event at Madison Square Garden. After dealing with backlash for that interplay, Jelly Roll and his spouse addressed the issue on her Dumb Blonde podcast.

“We were told that the president is the highest honor in the world. When you meet a president, that’s a [expletive] honor, no matter if you like them or not,” Bunnie said. Jelly Roll agreed, including, “Dude, there’s not a chance in hell that I’m not going to meet the president-elect.”

“I don’t care – if I got a call to meet Joe Biden, I would have stopped at any point and meet him,” he continued. “That’s the active president. I don’t care about what he thinks or I think about policies. I don’t hide behind the I’m not political stuff. I’m not political!”
