In defiance of the Supreme Court’s ruling, President Donald Trump signed a new global tariff, upsetting conservatives.
On February 20, the Supreme Court delivered a major setback to President Trump‘s tariff coverage, which had been one of the largest platforms of his presidency. In a 6-3 ruling, SCOTUS declared that the 79-year-old president lacked the authority to impose global tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
Following the ruling, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to announce a new global tariff.
The president wrote, “It is my Great Honor to have just signed, from the Oval Office, a Global 10 percent on all Countries, which will be effective almost immediately.
“Thank you for your consideration to this matter,” he closed.
After Fox News shared the President’s post across social media, their followers were not thrilled with Trump. They claimed this was a bad move and criticized how the president was acting like a toddler who wasn’t getting his way.
One critic said, “The big child is a toddler. Everything is about him. If the big child can’t have it, he’ll cry and do all the pieces to burn it down, no matter the results. The big goof.”
Another critic added, “Following the Supreme Court’s 6-3 ruling limiting his emergency powers, President Trump signed an order imposing a 10% global tariff. Trade tensions are set to rise as this transfer takes impact.”
A 3rd wrote, “This clown even goes on to say he can do whatever he desires?! He has clearly misplaced the plot. It’s good to see the Courts are finally reigning in this dysfunctional dictator.”
Despite the president having his share of critics, he also had a supporter who cheered, “Trump isn’t backing down. A ten % global tariff signed, displaying he’ll keep defending American employees and industries!”

Ahead of the new global tariff, following the ruling, Trump claimed at a press conference that he would impose a 10 percent tariff and use a different law, which would give him the power to impose tariffs for 150 days. Congress would then have to step in after 150 days.
Trump blasted the Supreme Court’s ruling and slammed the justices who voted to strike down his tariff polices. He accused the judges of being “swayed” by foreign interests.
“It’s my opinion that the court has been swayed by foreign interests by a political movement that is far smaller than people ever think,” Trump said.
He also called the justices who ruled against him a “disgrace” and “fools and lapdogs.”

In the ruling, two conservative Trump-appointed justices, Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett, joined three liberal justices and a fellow conservative justice to kind the bulk ruling.
Trump-appointed Justice Brett Kavanaugh also dissented, along with Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.
Lower courts beforehand ruled that Trump’s IEEPA tariffs are unlawful.
