Moments of time change lives. Few know this better than Frazer Clarke. In 2017, Frazer Clarke and his British Lionhearts boxing colleagues have been in the Houses of Parliament, suited and booted, previewing their workforce bout against the Italian Thunder at York Hall.

Boxing press conferences will be unpredictable. Nobody is aware of how many questions might be requested, how many interviews might be carried out, when it can start or when it ends. Most interviews are carried out on the flooring, in a blended zone, where cameras fill the air like giant mosquitoes and the barks of inquisitive reporters permeate the room as digital camera flashes blind those in the neighborhood. Clarke, his coaches and his team-mates walked out of the Houses of Parliament and witnessed an attack which modified Britain ceaselessly.

“You could talk about being tough, but I have no qualms in saying, you know what, it was a bit of a freezing situation,” Clarke, who is fighting on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s clash with Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, exclusively told Express Sport.

Reflecting on where he was on that fateful day, he said: “I can remember I stood with other fighters, Calum French, Pat McCormack, and it just happened. It happened so close to us, it just didn’t feel real until we got back in the building. I came out of the doors and what I walked into was just horrific.

“The terrorist b******, he stabbed a police officer, PC Keith Palmer. He dropped a couple of metres in front of me on the floor. My brave coach, Tony Davis, bless him, he tried to jump over and revive him. Then, out of nowhere, a police officer called me and just pop, pop, shot the terrorist.

“Unknown to me, he’d already caused that carnage on the bridge in the car. A terrible day for everyone involved. A really sad event. Some poor people lost their lives and family members lost, loved ones devastated.”

As properly as PC Palmer, Masood also killed mom of two Aysha Frade, retired 75-year-old Leslie Rhodes, US vacationer Kurt Cochran and Romanian vacationer Andreea Cristea, while at least 50 others have been injured. Clarke was shocked when he realised 9 years had handed since the incident. “I can’t believe it. That’s f*****,” he replied, as the visions of that fateful day started to circulation through his thoughts again.

Every tiny choice Clarke took that day are maybe the purpose he was not on the end of Masood’s violence; every interview he did or did not do, every phrase spoken, every journey to the toilet and every break to get a sizzling drink, could have saved his life that day.

Had he determined to take a stroll over the Westminster bridge, as hundreds of vacationers do every day, Clarke is aware of he could have been in the method of the terrorist’s car. When requested how close he was to the incident, Clarke replied: “I’m going to say, 40 yards.

“We have been in all probability half a minute forward. We got here out of like an artwork gallery, if we would been half a minute forward, and gone out by the two big gates, where he’d come spherical and attacked the police officer, if we would have come spherical there, issues may have been so different.

“I might have acted brave or say, ‘I would have done this and I would have done that,’ but he was wielding two zombie knives, and it was frightening, it really was. I’ve been involved in some crazy things in my life, but that was really one of the maddest days ever.”

Clarke and his team-mates were then taken back into Parliament and locked in there for eight hours, as the police sought to clear the area and ensure the threat was ended.

Not long after he was allowed to depart the scene, Clarke was at Yorke Hall, combating against the Italians. “At the time, 10 years ago, I was 10 years younger, a bit more naïve to the world,” Clarke added.

“The next day we still boxed, we still fought the next day, we got asked if we wanted to or not. We were young lads and we were getting a few quid, so we all wanted to box though and we went out and boxed 24 hours later. So, it just shows you the naïvety you have to the world then.”
