Annoyed Justin Thomas disagrees with PGA | Golf News

Justin Thomas took issue with the foundations official after his enjoying group was positioned on the clock at the PGA Championship.

Thomas was grouped with Keegan Bradley and Cameron Young at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania, where difficult circumstances and fierce winds have made the course notably demanding during the second spherical. Thomas’s group was put on the clock, with ESPN’s broadcast capturing the 33-year-old — who carded a one-under in the opening spherical — and Bradley in a seen dispute with the foundations official.

“We just didn’t really agree with it. It’s hard because it’s kind of the whole time par thing. What is time par?” Thomas said after finishing his spherical.

“How can time par on this course be the same when it’s blowing 25 and the pins are tough than if it’s not? And does time par change every day? There’s just so many factors that go into it.”

Thomas elaborated, finally conceding that his group was behind tempo, but declaring that no one was being held up because of them.

“We were behind,” Thomas acknowledged. “I’m not — I think that wasn’t our issue or being annoyed by it, it’s just the fact that we weren’t holding up the group behind us. They were about — it seemed like every time we were on the green, they were on the tee and so on and so forth.

“The onerous half to me with the entire tempo of play factor is that you, there’s so a lot that goes into golf and there’s so a lot that goes into gap to gap in phrases of, are you hitting it close, are you in a position to faucet it in, or you could have to mark it, stuff like that, to where, are you holding the group up or are you not, to where it’s extremely onerous to make that call. And we just did not agree with it, to be trustworthy.

“But we got taken off, and a hole later we were caught up. So it kind of goes to our point of why we didn’t think we should of, but it is what it is. It’s a part of it.”

The course options exceptionally difficult greens with extreme slopes and quite a few demanding par-fours.

Speaking after his spherical, Chris Gotterup said the course is not enjoying unfairly, but emphasised that without exact ball placement, gamers will face vital difficulties.

“I’m going to try to answer this properly,” Gotterup said. “I don’t think it’s unfair, but I do think for pace of play and certain aspects, there have been a couple — you know, 14 today is probably aggressive, I will say.

“You’re hitting a 4-iron to a 10-foot circle, and if it does not go there, it is off the inexperienced, and if you hit it 40 toes left, you could have a very onerous 2-putt.

“So, you know, Bob made birdie in my group and he hit a great shot. So is it unfair, probably not. But is it going to make the round slow, yeah.

“Yesterday I feel gap 8 was most likely pushing it a little bit. I hit 5-wood yesterday, and I hit 7-iron today. Granted, I do not know if they have been anticipating 30 mile an hour winds yesterday, but I also did shoot 5-under today.”
