Trump says Iran war is popular as he warns of | Political News
Donald Trump on Tuesday insisted in the face of contradictory polls that the war in Iran is popular among Americans.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday at the construction web site for the White House ballroom, Trump acknowledged that there is some damaging sentiment for the war, which is about to enter its third month.
“Everyone tells me it’s unpopular, but I think it’s very popular,” Trump said. “When they hear that it has to do with nuclear weapons that could take out Los Angeles, take out major cities very quick — I’ll tell you what when we explain it to people — I don’t really have enough time to explain it to people. I’m too busy getting it done.”
But a new New York Times and Sienna ballot printed Monday provides to an already growing checklist of surveys that discover the war in Iran is masively unpopular with the public.
Pollsters requested whether or not Trump’s choice to go to war with Iran was the suitable or improper choice. A clear majorit — 64% of responsdents — said it was the improper choice. Only 30% supported the president.
The war and rising fuel costs, as other polls have discovered, are contributing to Trump’s tanking approval numbers and probably placing down poll Republicans at risk in the midterm elections.
“As both parties mobilize for expensive and bitter midterm contests, the survey suggests that Republican candidates are entering their general-election races with stark political liabilities,” pollsters at the New York Times said.
Those insurance policies are also affecting his total approval score, with the Times ballot recording a new document low for his second time period at just 37%. The ballot was performed between May 11-15 among 1,507 registered voters.
But depsite the growing unpopularity for Trump’s international coverage, he doubled down again on the war in Iran as he answered reporters’ questions Tuesday.
“I think frankly it’s very popular. But whether it’s popular or unpopular, I have to do it,” Trump said, “because I’m not going to let the world be blown up on my watch. Not gonna happen.”
The president fielded questions in entrance of the positioning of another precedence dragging down his reputation — the White House ballroom, which has been unpopular since Trump announced the project in October.
The survey discovered they oppose the East Wing’s demolition and ballroom project 56% to 28%, the same percentages as when the ballot was taken in October.
