President Donald Trump has seemingly signaled that his alternative for a successor has yet to be decided, after he was requested to reply to California Governor Gavin Newsom’s remarks about the future of the Republican Party.
“Gavin Newsom is on Capitol Hill today, and he said he doesn’t think JD Vance has what it takes to come after you. What’s your response to that?” a reporter requested Wednesday. Trump responded to the remark diplomatically, praising his vice president.
The query stemmed from a clip Newsom posted on X, in which he spoke at the Center for American Progress Ideas competition on Tuesday. “Donald Trump is an invasive species. I don’t see Trumpism lasting past Trump — period, full stop,” Newsom wrote.
Newsom added, “It’s a cult of personality.” The Democratic governor also launched criticism at Vance, saying, “With all due respect, JD Vance, you don’t have it.”
