President Donald Trump has announced that a deal has practically been reached with Iran to end the months long struggle.
“I am in the Oval Office at the White House where we just had a very good call with President Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, of The United Arab Emirates, Emir Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, and Minister Ali al-Thawadi, of Qatar, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah, of Pakistan, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, of Türkiye, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, of Egypt, King Abdullah II, of Jordan, and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, of Bahrain, concerning the Islamic Republic of Iran, and all things related to a Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to PEACE,” Trump posted on Saturday night.
“An Agreement has been largely negotiated, subject to finalization between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the various other Countries, as listed. Separately, I had a call with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel, which, likewise, went very well.”
“Final aspects and details of the Deal are currently being discussed, and will be announced shortly. In addition to many other elements of the Agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP”
On Saturday afternoon Trump held a “breakthrough” call with Middle Eastern leaders in Iran.
Officials briefed on the matter said earlier Saturday that the Trump administration and Iran had been just dealing with points on “wording” of a number of factors.
“The call was very positive. Good progress is being made,” a regional diplomat told Fox News. “Regional leaders were supportive of the progress and of the breakthrough President Trump achieved with the talks.”
The Associated Press also reported that a regional official cautioned that “last-minute disputes” may derail efforts.
He said the potential deal would come with an official declaration of the struggle’s end, with two-month negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program. The Strait of Hormuz can be reopened, and the U.S. would end its blockade of Iran’s ports. There had been no additional particulars given.
Following the call, Trump called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to inform him of the main points of the settlement.
Earlier Saturday, Trump told Axios he was a “solid 50/50” on an Iran deal or blowing Iran to “kingdom come.”
“I think one of two things will happen: either I hit them harder than they have ever been hit, or we are going to sign a deal that is good,” he told the news outlet.
Pakistan had said Saturday that talks between army chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Iranian leaders in Tehran had made progress toward a “ultimate understanding” toward resolving the U.S.-Iran war.
Pakistan’s military released a statement after Munir’s visit and described the over 24 hours of meetings with senior Iranian officials as “extremely productive.”
“The intensive negotiations over the last twenty-four hours have resulted in encouraging progress toward a ultimate understanding,” Pakistan’s navy said.
