Iran hangs child bride after she killed her | Political News
The reported execution of a child bride sufferer in Iran has sparked widespread condemnation. Human rights group Hengaw reported on April 29 that Iranian authorities had hanged Hanifeh Avandi, a 24-year-old Turkish lady from Tabriz. She is believed to have been a sufferer of child and pressured marriage.
The execution happened at daybreak on Sunday, April 19, at Tabriz Central Prison, the group acknowledged.
Avandi was reportedly sentenced to death under qisas, the Islamic legal precept of “retaliation in kind”, following allegations that she deliberately killed her husband 5 years earlier, after 11 months of marriage.
Sources declare that Avandi had been compelled by her household to marry a disabled man when she was 17 years previous.
Reports point out that Avandi skilled extreme psychological misery throughout her incarceration and was receiving medical supervision.
Human rights activist Turkan Bozkurt argued that systemic circumstances led to her death: “forced marriage as a child, a husband she could not leave, a legal system that gave his family the right to kill her, and a prison physician whose objections carried no binding force”.
