President Donald Trump is in the Situation Room has signaled that he’s prepared to make a “final decision” on the ceasefire deal with Iran in a Truth Social post.

The post from the president comes after a senior U.S. official warned that the war in Iran could resume after the latest deal was deemed “inadequate.” Speaking with Axios, the official claimed that Iran had been unwilling to make concessions on its nuclear program, leading the president to reconsider reopening hostilities.

Officials stated that Trump would most likely meet with top national security officials in the Situation Room to discuss other options. Ahead of receiving Iran’s latest offer, Trump reportedly said that the “clock is ticking” and if Iran isn’t willing to cave on the U.S. demands, “they’re going to get hit a lot tougher.”

The senior U.S. official said the proposal from Tehran, delivered Sunday night via mediators from Pakistan, was only a marginal improvement over its last offer. Iran’s terms reportedly included a stronger commitment not to pursue a nuclear weapon but no promises to suspend its uranium enrichment or to surrender any of its stockpile of highly enriched uranium.

In turn, the U.S. agreed to lift some oil sanctions, but the U.S. official added that any sanction relief won’t come “for free.” The officials said, “We are actually not making a lot of progress. We are at a very severe place today. The strain is on them to be responsive in the appropriate approach.”
