On Sunday, June 21, Atlanta police have been called to a disturbance at the airport involving former interim UFC light-weight champion Dustin Poirier. “The Diamond” was taken into custody after being aggressive with airport employees. Video of the incident later emerged revealing a drunken Poirier threatened police officers.

On Tuesday, Poirier launched a assertion via social media admitting that he wants help to deal with alcohol. The Louisiana native retired from fighting in July 2025 after shedding to Max Holloway via unanimous determination in a trilogy bout. Retirement hasn’t been an simple transition for the 37 year-old.

“Some days I’m great, some days I’m not so good,” Poirier posted on his Instagram tales. “If I’m not working towards something or trying to better my family I’m a danger to myself.”

“I’m at a point where I need some help, walking away from fighting hasn’t been easy on me an alcohol isn’t the answer,” continued Poirier. “It has ruined my father’s life and I will not allow it ruin mine, my family deserves me 100%. I’m trying to do everything I can to get my mind right and take the right next steps.”

Poirier’s a future UFC Hall of Fame member. He fought UFC gold 3 times, the BMF title once, and captured the interim belt. Holds wins over 5 former UFC Champions: Max Holloway (twice), Conor McGregor (twice), Eddie Alvarez, Anthony Pettis and Justin Gaethje.
