Trump out of sync with voters on economy as GOP

Growing unease is spreading among Republican Party members, with some now questioning whether or not President Donald Trump is shedding contact with their priorities, notably on financial points.

Several GOP senators contend that the president’s refusal to signal the twenty first Century ROAD to House Act is the latest in a string of warning indicators that Trump could also be failing to deal with voters’ issues about rising prices.

Comments from the president suggesting he has a fondness for inflation and is unconcerned about Americans’ financial struggles have put the social gathering on the defensive. It comes as Trump sparked health fears in a new video from his ‘most lovely’ aide.

“Living back in the 1970s, I remember I had a car that had about a 12- or 13-gallon gas tank, and when the prices went up, I didn’t have the money to fill it up. I was living literally gas tank to gas tank,” Senator Thom Tillis told The Hill. “We got to acknowledge those situations.

“The American people will provide you with a lot of latitude in fixing a downside that they themselves are experiencing if they really feel such as you’re empathetic with what they’re dealing with and you have got a plan to deal with it,” he added. “Those are the 2 issues we now have to work on.”

Tillis suggested that the conflict in Iran has diverted Trump’s attention away from the economy, urging the White House to do more to communicate its efforts to tackle rising costs. “They need to make it a precedence and keep centered,” he said.

Rather than heeding GOP leaders’ counsel to campaign on his economic record, the 47th president has devoted considerable attention to criticizing Republicans who have opposed him and pressuring Congress to approve his SAVE America Act. Reports indicate the president surprised leadership when he scrapped the signing ceremony for the housing affordability bill, stating he wouldn’t sign it until Congress approved his legislation.

Republicans have raised concerns, warning that the president’s behavior could negatively impact Republican candidates already confronting difficult races. Texas Sen. John Cornyn noted: “We do have midterm elections coming up right here, last time I heard,”.

Trump reportedly dismissed Republican concerns, telling Speaker of the House Mike Johnson: “no one provides a s—about housing.”

One Republican Senator, speaking on condition of anonymity, indicated that voters’ views of the president’s economic management are becoming a significant concern heading into November. “It’s not great,” the senator said.

The senator referenced internal polling showing Independents are moving away from Republicans toward Democrats. The source informed The Hill that the president’s economic standing “accelerated” following his actions against Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

“People really feel their priorities will not be important,” the senator added. Republican strategist and former Senate and House GOP leadership aide Ron Bonjean suggested the president should instead direct his attention toward negotiations with Iran and the SAVE America Act.

“His priorities are dealing with national security and voter integrity, and the voters’ greatest issues are the economy,” Bonjean said. “His priorities aren’t syncing up with the voters’ issues even though he believes he has the best pursuits of [Americans] at coronary heart.”
