Whitstable Pearl axed after three series as fans left | UK News

Fans of Whitstable Pearl have been left dissatisfied after the cosy crime drama was axed, ending hopes of a fourth series and leaving one of its largest storylines unresolved.

The series, starring Kerry Godliman, won’t return after three seasons after streamer Acorn TV determined to focus on other exhibits.

The choice has reportedly annoyed solid and crew behind the drama, which has also attracted a loyal viewers on Channel 4 and U&Drama, because a number of plotlines will now stay unfinished.

A TV insider said: “It’s absolutely devastating for everybody involved as they feel the series will be left incomplete.

“Viewers are also going to be gutted as they’ll never know if the two main characters ever get together romantically, as the ‘will they, won’t they’ storyline has been a huge part of the drama.”

Godliman performs Pearl Nolan, a restaurant proprietor and personal investigator who has turn out to be recognized for fixing crimes in the Kent seaside city of Whitstable.

Across the three series, her difficult relationship with DCI Mike McGuire, performed by Howard Charles, has been at the centre of the drama.

When Mike first moved to Whitstable from London, the pair incessantly clashed, but their relationship progressively grew nearer as viewers waited to uncover whether or not their connection would finally turn out to be romantic.

However, with the show now cancelled, fans will never know whether or not Pearl and Mike would have turn out to be a couple.

The series is based on the Whitstable Pearl novels by Julie Wassmer.

There is some constructive news for Godliman, though, as she is going to continue taking on crime drama roles.

The actress is set to play Detective Inspector Andrea Dalziel in the Dalziel and Pascoe alongside Nina Singh.

The new function will give fans another probability to see Godliman investigating circumstances, even though Whitstable Pearl has now come to an abrupt end.
