President Donald Trump has declared that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would not be arrested wherever in the U.S. “in any way, shape, or form.”

Taking to Truth Social, Trump defended his ally by issuing a assertion moments after New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani declared the chief a struggle felony and that he can be arrested if he ever set foot in New York. “Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested, in any way, shape, or form, while in the United States of America,” wrote Trump.

“He is fighting against the Islamic Republic of Iran, which recently killed 52,000 innocent protestors, and has spent the last 47 years killing American Soldiers, and others,” Trump added. “The only ones that should be arrested are the people that led Iran into this unprecedented SPIRAL OF DEATH AND DESTRUCTION, something that should have been dealt with years ago, by previous Presidents! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

The post from Trump comes moments after Mamdani, talking at an event in New York City, said he deliberate to arrest the world chief when he comes to the United Nations General Assembly in September. During an interview with the New York Times on Saturday, the mayor labeled Netanyahu a “war criminal.

“But we won’t be writing our own laws to that end,” the mayor stated. The ICC has issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders, accusing them of war crimes and other crimes against humanity in Gaza.

The warrants claim that they all colluded in “starvation as a method of warfare, and … murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts.” During his campaign, Mamdani has repeatedly slammed Israel’s military actions in Gaza as genocide and Netanyahu as a war criminal.

Legal experts have said that it would be “a practical impossibility” for Mamdani to have the leader arrested. Even so, the U.S. is not a party to the ICC and therefore does not recognize its authority.

Early in his second term, President Trump issued economic sanctions against the court, maintaining that it lacked jurisdiction over the U.S. or Israel. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also vowed to “dismantle” the ICC, claiming that the court of “waging a war against our country, not with bullets or missiles” but with “the force of so-called international law.”

Netanyahu has not taken the New York mayor’s attacks lying down. The Israeli prime minister fired back, claiming that Mamdani supports Hamas.

“He’s with the terror actors,” Netanyahu told New York’s WABC. “And I think the problem is that he doesn’t recognize and he doesn’t care that those who hate the Jews and Israel ultimately hate America.”
