Ted Scott, caddie for Scottie Scheffler, was so assured that Jackson Koivun would secure victory at the 3M Open that he departed early for the airport.
World No. 1 Scheffler mounted a problem at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota, on Sunday as he tried to catch 21 yr outdated rising star Koivun, but the Auburn graduate remained composed under strain to post a flawless 66 and declare a three-stroke triumph in only his third skilled match.

“That shows you how much respect these guys have for you already. Scottie was around, but you know, it could have been, you know, Tracy [West, assistant executive director] might’ve been carrying the bag for Scottie if he didn’t.”
While Scott accepted another close call for his boss in what has been a irritating season, Koivun acknowledged the strain of seeing Scheffler’s title on the leaderboard was affecting him.
“I played a great round of golf today. Definitely had some nerves coming down on 18,” he said on the printed. “All throughout, the crowd, I kept hearing, ‘Scottie’s coming, Scottie’s coming.’
“I just tried to tone that out and keep taking part in the golf I knew I may. Was ready to discover some good putts coming down the stretch.”
Scheffler, who has secured just one PGA Tour victory this season despite accumulating 11 top-10 finishes, was greatly impressed by the resilience Koivun displayed merely five weeks after turning professional.
