UPDATE: Tecumseh High School released the following statement: “Tecumseh High School will be closed on Monday, October 13. This closure applies only to the high school campus and does not affect other Tecumseh school sites.
This decision is not related to any recent threats or safety concerns involving our school. Rather, it allows our staff and administration the time necessary to process and address recent events that we are not yet able to publicly discuss.
We appreciate your patience, trust, and continued support of our students and staff as we work through this situation together. School will resume on Tuesday, October 14, following our regular schedule.”
TECUMSEH, Okla. (KFOR) – A Tecumseh teen was taken into custody after the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office received a tip from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) about a planned school shooting.

“I just can’t believe it, it’s so close to home,” said Robin O’Bannon, who lives in Tecumseh.
The community was shocked after learning about the teen’s alleged plans.
FBI tip leads to arrest of Tecumseh teen
“Our office received a call from the FBI advising us that they were working on some information that they had received from a social media platform in reference to a threat that was made to an unknown school,” said Captain Jared Strand, with the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said once they received the tip, they immediately got to work.
“As soon as we received it, we had a search warrant done, completed, and a person detained within six and a half hours,” said Capt. Strand.
Tecumseh Public Schools said in a Facebook post that they were notified of the threat by the sheriff’s office. The post had “threatening language” and images of weapons taken inside a school bathroom.
The sheriff’s office has not releasing any information about the suspect due to his age. However, News 4 has confirmed he is a student at Tecumseh High School.
“The suspect had made a threat to shoot up a school where there would be a big event coming soon,” said Capt. Strand. “He admitted that he had plans. He was charged with terroristic threats, threatening to perform an act of violence, the violation of the Computer Crimes Act, and making or possessing obscene materials.”
People living in this small community were left with questions about how something like this could happen in their backyard.
“Why would you think that’s an answer?” said O’Bannon. “There are too many things going through the mind right now that you don’t understand. I’ll tell you that it could be because of being bullied or whatever, but that’s still not the answer for everything.”
Tecumseh Public Schools said in a statement that they take threats like this seriously.
