Others on social media were split, calling the resort “touristy.”

“I’m glad I’m not the only one who agrees. Mackinac Island may be very touristy, every thing is overpriced and if you’re there on a sizzling, humid day you’re going to odor horse s–t in every single place,” one user said.

“As a Michigander this is definitely extraordinarily relatable tbh,” another wrote.

Replying to the conservative X account End Wokeness, which called the island the “most American place in MI,” El-Sayed doubled down.

“Not sure about “End Wokeness,” but I don’t suppose the most ‘American place in MI’ could be a place that…bans automobiles,” he wrote.
