Antiques Roadshow guest found iconic authors ring | TV Shows

You never know what kind of treasures are lurking in an attic.

Plenty of Antiques Roadshow guests have brought forth items they found tucked in rafters and forgotten in floorboards.

However, an expert on the BBC iteration of the show wasn’t quite expecting to hearing someone had found a mourning ring, which had a famous writer’s lock of hair tucked inside it, stuffed in an attic for years.

While rifling around in her attic, a woman found a ring, which had a lock of braided hair inside that wa “very likely” to have been famed writer Charlotte Brontë’s, according to the Brontë Society.

The woman brought it on Antiques Roadshow when the show stopped in Erddig, North Wales, and explained that it had belonged to her late father-in-law.

Munn believed it was “utterly and completely credible” that the hair had been Brontë’s.

According to the Guardian, Ann Dinsdale, principal curator at the Brontë Society & Brontë Parsonage Museum, said they had no reason to doubt the ring had been made using the author’s hair, even though its place of origin was unknown.

Dinsdale said the ring would be a “lovely addition” to the museum’s collection, funds permitting.

The curator added: “We already have a considerable collection of Brontë hair at the museum, and there’s usually a sample on display.”

Without the hair, Munn said he would have valued the ring at £25. However, with the hair and the inscription, he valued it at £20,000.

According to List Verse, the woman found the astonishing ring in a grimy old locked box.

After searching for the key, she contacted a relative who found it. Upon opening the box, she discovered the small ring inside.

So, the guest had found not only a treasure worth a whopping five figures, but an important historical artifact that many of Brontë’s fans would love to see in a museum.

This wasn’t the first time Antiques Roadshow saw something valuable found in strange places.

In the American version of the show, a guest was shocked by the five-figure value of a piece of clothing they found after it fell from a ceiling of an old house.

Another guest was left stunned by the similarly whopping value of her great uncle’s rare and highly coveted baseball card that was found in attic rafters.
