The Army elevated its most enlistment age to 42 as fears over a potential army draft continue amid the escalating struggle in Iran.
Individuals up to 42 years outdated, with or without prior army service, can now enlist in the Regular Army, the Army National Guard, and the Army Reserve, following an up to date Army Regulation printed on Friday.
The earlier most age for enlistment was 35. Interestingly, the coverage didn’t change the minimal age for enlisting, which stays at 17 with parental permission, or 18.
The last time the Army briefly elevated its most enlistment age to 42 was in 2006, as the service struggled to fill its ranks during fight in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Army then dropped its enlistment age back to 35 a decade in the past in 2016. It comes after Kim Jong Un’s hardly ever seen daughter, 14, confirmed off her terrifying ability in a new propaganda video.
“Applicant is eligible for enlistment is applicant is at least 17 years of age and up to and including age 42 (exceptions not authorized),” the up to date regulation reads. “Applicants who are 17 years of age (have not reached their 18th birthday) require parental or guardian consent for enlistment through completion of appropriate sections of DD Form 1966.”
In latest years, Army recruiting officers have famous that the enlistment age has continued to increase. In 2024, Maj. Gen. Johnny Davis, commander of Army Recruiting Command, said the average recruit is now 22 years, 4 months outdated and still “going up.”

“That enlistment age only tells us, hey, there’s another market that we’re not really fully in,” Davis said. “We’re in the high school market—that is growing. But we really want this labor market to really grow for those who are older.”
Amid the change, Col. Angela Chipman, chief of the army personnel accessions and retention division, said the new restrict displays the growing need for various expertise.
“We’re kind of looking at a more mature audience that might have experience in technical fields,” Chipman said. “We need warrant officers with extreme technical capability, and those will come from the enlisted ranks.”

The change comes as Iran points a defiant two-word problem to U.S. forces after the Pentagon vowed to deploy 3,000 troops to the Middle East.
A spokesperson for Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei revealed that Iran has spent “over two decades” making ready for uneven warfare against the technologically superior US army. Admiral Ahmadian, representing the Supreme Leader on Iran’s Defense Council, declared Iran had “just one message for the American troopers: “Come closer.”
Fears over a military draft continue as Iran war escalates
Since the U.S. launched joint strikes with Israel on Iran, Americans have feared the possibility of conscription.
According to the Selective Service System, which runs the military draft, all male U.S. citizens and male immigrants residing in the U.S. must register with the Selective Service within 30 days of turning 18 years old. Both undocumented and documented immigrants are eligible for a potential draft, despite being repeatedly attacked by the Trump administration.
Exemptions for registering for a potential draft include: non-immigrant men in the U.S. on student, tourist, visitor, or diplomatic visas; men serving on active duty; cadets or midshipmen at U.S. service academies; and certain military colleges are not required to register.
Similarly, clergymen and male students preparing for the ministry, as well as sole surviving sons and “only sons,” are required to register for a draft, though they might later obtain deferments if a draft had been reinstated.
There is no draft at present in impact in the U.S. In order for a draft to be reinstated, Congress must cross laws authorizing necessary enlistment. Congress has not yet accredited a struggle in Iran. The last time a draft was used was in 1973 during the Vietnam War.
It comes as Donald Trump was seen “in distress” as his head jerked and eyes rolled back in an alarming health video.
