BBC Springwatch star’s devastating injury that still | UK News


Former Springwatch star Steve Backshall has opened up about one devastating injury that still massively impacts his life. The 52-year-old broadcaster rose to fame through his Deadly 60 show, where he encountered numerous harmful creatures, including jumbo squid, tarantulas, scorpions, tigers, and leopards. He gained a BAFTA for his work on the BBC show that solidified his place as a fashionable and well-respected nature presenter.

But it hasn’t always been plain crusing for the dad-of-three, who has skilled his truthful share of harmful accidents and life-changing accidents. Reflecting on his adventurers over the years, he told us: “One of the injuries that I had from a rock-climbing incident was an ankle fusion. My left ankle, effectively, doesn’t move. But I’m very, very lucky that I got through it and I can actually still walk so I absolutely count my blessings.”

Thankfully, the presenter managed to make a full recovery, but that did not imply he did not expertise some near-fatal accidents throughout his profession. He went on: “I have had a few near-miss situations. One of those was kayacking in Bhutan in the Himalayas and it was one of those situations where I was very, very lucky to get out of things alive.

“It was only down to the unimaginable heorism of my kayacking companion Sally Montgomery who managed to throw me a line and drag me out. It’s fairly a uncommon factor to be in a state of affairs where you genuinely owe your life to somebody as I so do Sal.

“It’s amazing every time I see her to get the opportunity to say thank you in a real meaningful way because basically everything else I’ve done in my life since has been down to her.”

The explorer teamed up with Volvo Car UK for the launch of its new Roadside Nature marketing campaign, in partnership with the Eden Partner.
