Belal Muhammad releases statement following UFC | MMA News
Former welterweight champion Belal Muhammad suffered a second loss in a row this past Saturday in the UFC Qatar co-main event. “Remember the Name” was defeated by Ian Machado Garry and for the first time in his 13-year profession Muhammad is coming off back-to-back losses.
Muhammad entered the bout hoping to rebound from dropping the title to Jack Della Maddalena at UFC UFC 315 in May. Garry received the battle via unanimous determination, profitable all three rounds on two of the judges’ scorecards. On Sunday, Muhammad issued a statement addressing the defeat.
“We couldn’t get it done. Thank you Doha for the memories. Thank you to my team and family and friends that are with me no matter what, and Thank you to anyone that’s with me,” he wrote on Instagram. “Alhamdillah for everything I’m blessed to be here …we have work to do.”

Muhammad received the UFC 170-pound championship at UFC 304 defeating then-champion Leon Edwards via unanimous determination turning into the first UFC champion of Palestinian descent. HIs rise to the title included a 10-fight profitable streak and six years unbeaten.
Heading into the UFC Qatar co-main event against Machado Garry, Muhammad was ranked No. 2 in the division.
