Bryson DeChambeau admits he wanted to quit The | Golf News
Bryson DeChambeau delivered a brutally sincere evaluation of his efficiency at The Open Championship, as Scottie Scheffler once again demonstrated why he stays the standout participant in skilled golf.
DeChambeau did not maintain back when discussing his season-long struggles, confessing he was “not prepared” for the yr as a number of alternatives to seize a main championship slipped through his fingers. However, the LIV Golf sensation issued an ominous warning to Team Europe forward of their Ryder Cup showdown at Bethpage Black.
The 31-year-old’s marketing campaign at Royal Portrush failed to ship the outcome he craved, as he settled for a T10 end at nine-under-par. In a revealing interview with NBC’s Cara Banks, DeChambeau opened up about his mental state following the conclusion of his weekend.
“It was a lot of emotions,” he instructed Banks after finishing his closing spherical. “After the first round, I’m like, ‘I just want to go home.’ But I said to myself, ‘No, I can’t.’ Dad taught me different, and my mom did too. I’m not going to leave her out of it. I love her to death. And even my brother, too.
“I imply, there are occasions where I wanted to quit, and he instructed me, ‘No, dude, you bought to keep going. You received too good a sport. So for me, it was a proud second coming down that 18th gap with an alternative to make the cut and accomplish that feat. And that was a large second.
“And I said, ‘You know what? Let’s use that momentum to play well this weekend.’ And had a good round going yesterday. I didn’t fully get to the position I wanted to be in, but today was a brilliant round and pretty happy with the way I performed,” DeChambeau shared.
He also revealed his strategy for the event, saying: “Just throw everything out the window and just call it a day. No, I mean, I still use a lot of the basics, but putting is usually a difficult thing for me to control speed. And we did a good job of that this week. I barely three-putted, and that was my goal going into it.”
Looking ahead to next yr, he added: “And coming back next year, and that’s another goal of mine is if I can keep doing that and give myself a better chance with the new golf ball, hopefully some flighted shots and give myself a chance to win the Claret Jug,”
The LIV star mirrored on his third spherical, admitting that not having his correct gear was detrimental to his efficiency. “Yeah, it’s a long time [until the next major], but it gives me a lot of time to get ready for next year,” he concluded.
