Bryson DeChambeau might not be Tiger Woods, but his LIV Golf teammate sees quite a few parallels between the 2.

DeChambeau secured his second consecutive LIV Golf victory on Sunday, beating Jon Rahm in a playoff in South Africa seven hours after another sudden-death win over Richard T. Lee in Singapore.

The two-time major champion is hitting type at the proper second with less than three weeks until the Masters, where he’ll attempt to banish the demons of his final-round collapse last 12 months. DeChambeau was overcome with emotion after his $4 million victory at Steyn City on Sunday, shedding tears after clinching the win on the first playoff gap following latest personal challenges.

DeChambeau’s Crushers group also captured the $3M group competitors, edging home favourite, the Southern Guards, by a single shot. At the profitable group’s press convention, DeChambeau’s teammates have been requested by a reporter how he compares to 15-time major champion Woods.

DeChambeau was hesitant, saying: “Please don’t compare me to Tiger,” but Charles Howell III was completely satisfied to weigh in. The 46 12 months previous has been around the block and competed against both gamers.

“The greats, and I can speak to Tiger and to Bryson, have this ability to switch everything off and play golf completely fearlessly no matter what may happen,” Howell III said. “They just have this ruthless nature about them to not want to beat you by one or two, but beat you by three or four or five.

“You may see Bryson grinding to make that eagle putt in the playoff. I’d have just gone up there and lagged the factor and been executed with it, but he is down there grinding. He’s a little bit low-key upset he left it short and missed it.

“They also hit it extremely far for their era and their generation. They’re both phenomenal putters. There are a lot of similarities in that.

“But I believe it is more the mental skill for them to swap into a different mindset and different mode, to do something to win. I noticed it with Tiger, fully ruthless, and it is in this one, as effectively.”

DeChambeau maintained his lead throughout at Steyn City, though he had to fend off a charging Rahm on the final day. DeChambeau posted a five-under-par 66 to finish 26 under for the tournament, but couldn’t convert a birdie on any of the closing seven holes.

Rahm closed with an impressive eight-under-par 63 to force a playoff, though he landed in the bunker with his second shot into the par-five 18th. DeChambeau, by contrast, delivered a stunning approach, setting up a 12-footer for eagle. A birdie proved sufficient after Rahm couldn’t get up and down from the sand.

DeChambeau showed emotion afterward. He alluded to personal challenges in his life without elaborating. “It’s been a robust few weeks. It’s not always sunshine and rainbows,” he admitted. “But I can inform you that having these three great people up right here and my caddie and the group around me actually helped me persevere on through robust moments.”

“Lots of it was just stuff that I am unable to actually clarify, but finally, I’ll inform you that I’m tremendous grateful for how this has all performed out, and I’m tremendous emotional.”
