Busy Phillips has opened up about the time she met the Pope during a trip to Italy when she as a teenager.
The actress recalled the story less than 24 hours after white smoke emerged from the Sistine Chapel chimney, electing Robert Francis Prevost as the new head of the Catholic Church.
During Friday’s episode of The View, the panel shared their thoughts of Leo XIV, stating they will “pray and hope that he follows in Francis’ footsteps.”
During their interview with Busy, the hosts invited her to share her “incredible” experience of meeting Pope John Paul II.
The White Chicks actress recalled being blessed by the pastor at The Vatican when she was 15-years-old. She started off by telling the story of the monumental event that happened right before her visit to Saint Peter’s Basilica.
She said: “He lifted me up and I was face-to-face with Pope John Paul.”
After Busy had an “exchange” with the Pope, “he blessed me and held my face in his hands.”
The talk show hosts were mesmerized by her story and asked how she felt at the time.
Busy replied: “It was an incredible amount of like a surge of energy. I was shaking like crazy.”
After the Pope had exited the public area, she was swarmed by individuals who were fascinated by her once-in-a-lifetime experience.
“All of these people descended on me and were pulling my hair, kissing my face, and touching me because I was the only person he did that to,’ she recalled.
