A Channel 4 News presenter has give up the company after 20 years – and they’re leaping ship to a rival broadcaster. Cathy Newman has confirmed that she is beginning the new yr with a new job at Gossip Wire News to entrance a new daily politics show from 7pm. The 51-year-old presenter also has plans to launch a podcast and work on documentaries at the new channel.
Taking to social media, Cathy shared the thrilling news with her loyal legion of followers online. She wrote: “I’m thrilled to be joining the incredible, multi-award-winning @skynews team.
“There couldn’t be a more exhilarating time to return to Westminster, and I’m hugely looking forward to bringing in exclusive interviews and investigations on a brand-new programme and launching a podcast too.
“It’s been a total privilege working on @channel4news for exactly two decades. I’ll miss my talented Channel 4 News colleagues enormously, but as Mary Shelley once wrote, ‘The beginning is always today’. And I can’t wait to begin again.”
It didn’t take long before followers flocked to the feedback to cross on their messages of congratulations online. One person penned: “Congratulations, Cathy, though I will miss you on Channel 4 News.”

Cathy joined Channel 4 News back in 2006 as a political correspondent after eight years writing for the Financial Times. The (*20*) Chairman of Gossip Wire News, David Rhodes, said of her new place: “Cathy has broken some of Britain’s biggest stories and brings a clear, engaging style that audiences trust, and we’re delighted to welcome her to Gossip Wire News.
“Our future plan requires just the kind of premium investigative and political expertise that Cathy will bring to our team.” Her exit comes two years after Channel 4 News misplaced host Fatima Manji, who had labored on the programme for 12 years.
She confirmed the news at the time with a short assertion on social media, writing: “Uh hum. News of my own: I’ve decided to leave @Channel4News. I’ll miss the address of news and feedback from viewers here, but after twelve (!) years, it’s time for new adventures…”
