Conservative  speaker Charlie Kirk has been pronounced dead at the age of 31.

President Donald Trump confirmed Kirk died in a post on Truth Social, writing: “We love you.”

“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!” Trump wrote.

The father of two was talking at UVU when pictures rang out just as Kirk was starting his speech. Speaking with The Daily Express, campus police confirmed the shooting and that a shelter-in-place order was issued. The shooter is known to still be on the run.

Kirk’s death was also confirmed by his spokesperson, Andrew Kolvet.

“A single shot was fired on campus toward a visiting speaker,” police said in a assertion.”Police are investigating now, suspect in custody.”

Prior to the announcement, a number of officers had posted that they had been praying for Kirk’s recovery. Trump initially wrote on Truth Social: “We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!”

FBI Director Kash Patel also issued a assertion on X, stating: “We are closely monitoring reports of the tragic shooting involving Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Our thoughts are with Charlie, his loved ones, and everyone affected.”

A person whose daughter was at the event said she also noticed him being shot in the neck. “Charlie Kirk was just shot at UVU while speaking. My daughter was in the crowd and saw it. He was shot in the neck. Pray for him and the students who are there,” he wrote.

A screenshot of a UVU alert signifies that the shooter was apprehended. “UVU Alert: A single shot was fired on campus toward a visiting speaker. Police are investigating now, suspect in custody,” it reads.

U.S. Sen. Mike Lee acknowledged the shooting on his official X web page, writing, “I am tracking the situation at Utah Valley University closely. Please join me in praying for Charlie Kirk and the students gathered there.”

Vice President JD Vance penned a assertion of his own, too, on the platform, “Say a prayer for Charlie Kirk, a genuinely good guy and a young father.”
