Charlie Kirk’s widow asked for advice on how to | Political News
Vice President JD Vance has revealed that Charlie Kirk’s widow asked for advice on how to inform her kids their father was murdered.
Vance on Monday hosted an episode of “The Charlie Kirk Show” in tribute to the conservative activist, who was fatally shot last Wednesday while talking at Utah Valley University.
Kirk’s casket arrived Thursday in Arizona aboard Air Force Two, accompanied by Vance and Kirk’s widow, Erika.
During the journey, Vance said he “worried that Erika would collapse with grief” and shared that the widow asked his spouse Usha Vance for advice.
“My spouse told me, ‘Erika asked me for advice on how she ought to inform her kids that their father had been murdered,'” he said.
Guests on the show honored Kirk’s legacy, including White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
On Friday, Erika Kirk vowed to continue her late husband’s campus tour and his podcast shows.
“To everyone listening tonight across America, the movement my husband built will not die,” she said Friday in a livestreamed video. “It won’t. I refuse to let that happen.”
She thanked Vance and US President Donald Trump who she said had “shown their love” for her husband.
Kirk, 31, founded the political organization Turning Point USA to draw more young, conservative evangelical Christians into politics. He was a confidant of President Donald Trump.
Vance described Kirk as his “expensive buddy” and the “smartest political operative I’ve met.” He added that Kirk was a “critical part of getting Donald Trump elected.”
“I wanted to use this show today to advocate for Charlie, to talk about him, to talk about what kind of a guy he was, what kind of a man he was, what kind of a husband and father he was,” Vance said.
Following Kirk’s death, Utah man Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated murder and other felony offenses. Authorities are preparing to file capital murder charges against him as early as Tuesday.
Investigators have yet to provide details about the motive behind the attack. Utah Governor Spencer Cox said that Robinson’s family and friends described the suspect’s politics as veering left in recent years.
“There clearly was a leftist ideology,” Cox told NBC. “Friends have confirmed that there was kind of that deep, dark internet, the Reddit culture, and these other dark places of the internet where this person was going deep.”
Cox said Robinson disliked Kirk and recommended that he could have been “radicalized” online.
Taunting messages have been discovered engraved on the ammunition used to kill Kirk, which included anti-fascist language. Court data show that one bullet casing had, “Hey, fascist! Catch!” written on it.
Robinson is due to seem in court on Tuesday.
Turning Point USA will maintain a memorial for Kirk on September 21 at State Farm Stadium exterior Phoenix.
