Benn, looking ahead to a likely rematch as early as September, conceded: “It’s a onerous one to swallow. I did not come into the combat pondering it could be that close, I did not come into it to lose, I got here in to win and I used to be not good enough and I need to do higher.

“I want the rematch, I want my revenge. I think inactivity played a big part. I think it took me back. I had Eubank hurt multiple times but I couldn’t get the finish and I’ll make sure for next time that the finish is there.”
