Cooper & Fry is a detective drama based by Stephen Booth’s beloved novels and will characteristic Coronation Street and Downton Abbey star Robert James-Collier as local DC Cooper, alongside Doctor Who’s Mandip Gill as the reserved newcomer Fry.

A synopsis for the programme states: “Set in the mystery-shrouded Peak District, DC Ben Cooper (Robert James-Collier), an affable local, is thrown together with guarded newcomer DC Diane Fry (Mandip Gill), to investigate a string of mysterious deaths.
“Based on the bestselling novels by Stephen Booth, the 2 mismatched detectives must work together on a collection of uncommon instances to get outcomes. Despite Fry’s scepticism of local folklore, they will need to navigate not only the twisted paths of the instances before them, but also the shadowy beliefs that still maintain sway in the hills.
“As their personal lives begin to intertwine and past scars look to be healed, a unique friendship is formed. While Cooper and Fry unearth old rituals and beliefs, they must rely on each other to not only bring justice, but to survive.”

Robert portrays DC Ben Cooper, explaining his character: “He’s genuinely a nice guy. Ben has a backstory where he’s trying to find out who’s behind the horrific murder of his dad, who was a well-known police officer. I enjoyed playing that emotional element and adding layers to the performance.”

Mandip takes on the position of Diane, a “very sharp, street wise, and by the book,” police officer who stays “sceptical” of the folklore Cooper has been raised with. Mandip explained about her character: “Her scepticism is what makes her and Ben so different, because when we first meet her she doesn’t buy any of the supernatural elements of the case. That isn’t because of Diane’s training or the crimes she’s worked on beforehand, it’s because it makes no sense to her.
“By the end of the collection Diane would not imagine in the folklore, she just understands the village more and how those tales are related to the group.”
Manip is best recognised for her roles as Yasmin Khan in Doctor Who and Phoebe McQueen in Hollyoaks. She has also starred in Doctors, The Good Karma Hospital, Suspicion and Curfew.
Charlotte Bradley portrays Isobel Cooper
