David Muir broke into his ABC broadcast to share devastating news after a household discovered themselves stranded following a terrifying maritime disaster.

The 51 12 months outdated anchor offered ABC’s World News Tonight on Wednesday to present an update on the Sullivan household, who had been pressured to leap into the water and swim to security on an island close to Cape Cod when their vessel burst into flames. The trio endured two harrowing nights on the distant location before rescue groups reached them.

The three-person household was pulled to security on Wednesday, with each member having sustained burn accidents. Muir lined the story, informing audiences, “We turn now to a remarkable story of survival off Massachusetts tonight. The family on a boat engulfed in flames, jumping off in the middle of the night, swimming on their own to an island where they were stranded.”

Muir subsequently handed coverage to ABC reporter Gio Benitez, who furnished viewers with extra data. Benitez described how the household was “shipwrecked on an island, desperately calling for help.” An audio recording of their misery call was then broadcast, experiences The Mirror. 

“Mayday, mayday, mayday! Our ship went down at Tarpaulin Cove,” the caller said. Benitez proceeded with his coverage stating, “The coastguard says the Sullivan family – Patrick, his wife Cynthia and son Tyler – set out from Falmouth on Cape Cod on Friday on their 30-foot boat, the Third Wave, planning to return Tuesday.

“But late Monday evening, the household was jolted awake by their barking canine. It seems the boat was on fire; the Sullivan’s leaping from the fully-engulfed boat, swimming to close by Naushon Island, taking shelter in a barn.

“When they did not return Tuesday, a concerned family member reported them missing to the Coast Guard.” A video was then shown of the Coast Guard frantically scouring the ocean for the lacking household.

The household had been found sheltering in a farmhouse and had been helicoptered to the hospital. Benitez went on, “All three family members suffered burns. Cynthia Sullivan is in critical condition and sadly, the family’s hero dog who woke them up did not survive.”

Social media customers flocked to the feedback part to categorical their reactions to the tragedy, with many highlighting the heartbreaking loss of the household’s canine companion. “RIP hero pup…praying they make a full recovery,” one particular person wrote.

“The dog,” another commented as they added a row of crying emojis.

A 3rd viewer posted, “RIP dear hero pup,” while another person added, “Oh, my heart is shattered to hear the dog didn’t make it. He saved his family, but he couldn’t be saved…..”

A fifth particular person posted, “Poor pup rip baby,” as another person admitted they had been “now crying before bed.”

Another viewer identified, “The dog saved their lives.”
