Dismissive Trump orders trade cut off to key | Political News
Trump aimed his frustration at Spain during a press convention at the NATO summit on Wednesday, as a physique language skilled weighs in on his “dismissive” conduct.
Speaking while sitting next to NATO Secretary Mark Rutte, Trump told reporters, “Spain is a wasted cause. We don’t want to do any trade business with Spain anymore by the way… “
Body language expert Judi James unpicked Trump’s demeanor, asserting that he’s so fed up he “can’t even bother to be angry”.
“Spain gets the biggest roasting here, last on the list of countries and immediately dismissed by Trump,” she says, adding, “His eyes drop to his right, and he leans to direct his first words at the Secretary General, his fingers drooping into a downward steeple as though he can’t even bother to be angry.”
“His sweep of a hand is imperious and dismissive, then a sideways jaw jut suggests a high level of anger.”
As the president was seen ordering what appears to be Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to “cut off all trade with Spain, please,” he called the country a “wasted cause.”
Analyzing this, James says, “His fingertips tap together in a gesture of annoyed impatience, before his hands clasp together to imply that’s it, done, finished.”
When the president descends into mimicking the Spanish leader, James adds, “This role-play technique appears to be pleasing to the president as though he spends time visualizing the groveling of anyone who dares to cross him.”
As Trump vows not to do any trade business with Spain anymore, it’s unclear how this would work, since Spain is a member of the EU, which manages trade for all its member countries.
The U.S. feud with Spain began last year, when Madrid refused to endorse NATO’s new 2035 target of spending 5 percent of GDP on defense, the only ally to push back on it.
Additionally, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez also railed against Trump’s decision to go to war with Iran in February and refused to let the U.S. use military bases in Spain.
Speaking about the U.S. war with Iran in March, Sánchez said, “The query shouldn’t be if we’re on the aspect of the ayatollahs — no one is. The query is whether or not we’re in favor of peace and worldwide legality. You can’t reply one illegality with another, because that is how the great catastrophes of humanity start.”
