Earlier Friday, Trump mentioned he had ordered two nuclear submarines to be moved to “the appropriate regions” in the wake of “highly provocative” statements from Medvedev, who is the present deputy chairman of Russia‘s Security Council.

“Medvedev was talking about nuclear, when you talk about nuclear we have to be prepared,” Trump mentioned to reporters at the White House Friday afternoon. “We are totally prepared.”

Though Putin has not addressed Trump’s adjusted ultimatum for peace talks, he mentioned Friday he needed a “lasting and stable peace.” This week, however, Russian missiles and drones had been deployed against Ukrainian troops.

“We need a lasting and stable peace on solid foundations that would satisfy both Russia and Ukraine, and would ensure the security of both countries,” Putin instructed reporters Friday.

The third spherical of direct dialogue between Ukraine and Russia passed off in Istanbul final week, but was interrupted much less than an hour after they started and led to no new agreements.

“As for any disappointments on the part of anyone, all disappointments arise from inflated expectations,” Putin added on Friday. “This is a well-known general rule.”
