Donald Trump issues urgent guidance to US citizens | Political News
President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that over 9,000 Americans have returned from the Middle East as the Iran conflict escalates.
The president said Americans wanting to depart can register with the State Department at Step.State.Gov if they need to return home. After the U.S and Israel struck Iran on Feb. 28 and killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, Iran has been attacking gulf nations just like the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
“If you are a U.S. Citizen in the Middle East, and you want to come home, please register with the State Department at Step.State.Gov.The Department will identify where you are, and provide travel options to you. We are already chartering flights, free of charge, and booking commercial options, which we expect will become increasingly available as time goes on,” Trump wrote.
U.S. Citizens can also call the State Department Task Force at +1-202-501-4444 anytime of the day, the president added.
On Monday the U.S requested its citizens depart the Middle East immediately “via commercial means” because of “serious safety risks” in the area.
The nations included are Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, the occupied West Bank and Gaza, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
Often deemed as a protected haven, residents in the gulf are shocked what’s unfolding in the area.
“This is Dubai’s ultimate nightmare, as its very essence depended on being a safe oasis in a troubled region,” Cinzia Bianco, an professional on the Persian Gulf at the European Council on Foreign Relations wrote on X. “There might be a way to be resilient, but there is no going back.”
Other nations are also attempting to get their citizens back home safely.
France said it could fly its citizens most at risk from the area on Tuesday. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot told the press that citizens will return via business and navy flights. Roughly 400,000 French citizens are in the Middle East.
On Monday, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer requested British residents in the Middle East to “register their presence” so the federal government to determine them and present “the best possible support.”
Over 100,000 British residents or roughly a third of all British residents residing there have registered, the BBC News reported on Tuesday. Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper famous there are roughly 300,000 British citizens in the Middle East.
