Donald Trump sends fierce 6-word message to NATO | Political News

U.S. President Donald Trump boldly claimed “I’m the one who SAVED NATO!!!” via Truth Social early Monday morning.

The president made the imprecise post after ramping up rhetoric about annexing Greenland, shaking up global alliances. Shortly before the post, Trump threatened to seize the mineral-rich, autonomous Danish territory in NATO “one way or the other.”

“If we do not take Greenland, Russia or China will take Greenland, and I’m not gonna let that occur,” Trump told reporters on board Air Force One. “I’d love to make a deal with them, it’s easier. But one way or the other, we’re gonna have Greenland.”

His threatening remarks come after he ordered the U.S. army to intervene in Venezuela, which concerned the seize and arrest of the oil-rich nation’s chief and his spouse on prices of alleged narco-terrorism and drug trafficking last weekend, sending shockwaves across the globe. The pair has pleaded not guilty in Manhattan federal court to the fees.

The day before he made the Truth Social post about NATO, Trump shared a screenshot from Wikipedia that lauded him as the “acting president” of Venezuela after his take down of President Nicolás Maduro and his spouse, Cilia Flores.

The post got here just days after Trump welcomed almost two dozen home and worldwide oil and gasoline executives to focus on their plans on how to deal with Venezuela’s profitable oil industry, which Trump seized control of after arresting Maduro and Flores.

While talking to reporters on Air Force One, Trump went on to insult Greenland by describing their protection as “two dogsleds,” while suggesting it’s under menace from Russia and China and would therefore benefit from the safety of U.S. protection.

During the remarks, Trump admitted that his plans to take over Greenland threaten to disrupt the NATO alliance but appeared unbothered by the disruption of the 77-year-old Western alliance.

“If it affects NATO, it affects NATO,” Trump added. “But they need us much more than we need them. I will tell you that right now.”

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte averted addressing Trump’s current remarks about Greenland and steered that Denmark and the alliance are “already speeding up their investments” to help Greenland construct up its “crucial” protection.

Rutte also reiterated fears expressed by Trump about defending themselves against adversaries, including Russia and China, as nicely as North Korea. He also has praised Trump for forcing the alliance to increase its protection spending.

Leaders of Greenland and Denmark have repeatedly responded to Trump’s threats by making clear that the island shouldn’t be for sale.

Leaders from the 5 political events in Greenland’s parliament issued a joint assertion Friday denouncing Trump’s remarks about utilizing pressure to seize the territory.

“We don’t want to be Americans, we don’t want to be Danish, we want to be Greenlanders,” the leaders of 5 events in parliament said in a joint assertion. “The future of Greenland must be decided by Greenlanders.”

Since 1951, the U.S. has maintained a army presence on Greenland, which boasts a population of 57,000 people. However, Trump has asserted that he seeks full control of the island.
