Former Notre Dame residence hall rector under investigation for inappropriate… | Latest Lifestyle News

SOUTH BEND — The University of Notre Dame board of trustees has organized a special committee to oversee an external investigation into allegations that a former residence hall rector engaged in inappropriate misconduct.

According to Notre Dame News, the Rev. Thomas King served as rector of the dormitory Zahm Hall from 1980 to 1997; the alleged inappropriate misconduct reportedly occurred during his time as rector.

University President the Rev. Robert Dowd and John Veihmeyer, chair of the board of trustees, requested that the committee be formed to oversee the external investigation led by Helen Cantwell at the law firm of Debevoise & Plimpton LLP. The key findings will be shared with the university community, Notre Dame News says.

“We treat all reports of alleged inappropriate misconduct with the utmost seriousness,” Notre Dame News says. “The alleged conduct is antithetical to Notre Dame’s values, and we urge anyone with additional information to contact Debevoise & Plimpton via email at NotreDameReview@debevoise.com.”

In a letter sent to alumni who resided in Zahm Hall during the time period in question, Dowd and Veihmeyer said they hope the investigation “will provide those who may have been affected with the opportunity to be heard.”
