A contributor for Fox News has slammed the mom of the Minneapolis church shooter for remaining silent and not aiding law enforcement amid investigations into her son’s actions.
The gunman, 23-year-old Robin Westman, killed two college college students and wounded more than a dozen others when he fired 116 rifle rounds through the home windows of a church at the Annunciation Catholic School on Wednesday, August 27.
Officials are fastidiously analyzing videos, writings, and the shooter’s actions, but they still do not know what prompted Westman to open fire. Meanwhile, his mom has been unreachable to the police and has now employed a prison protection attorney.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara acknowledged that Westman’s household, including his father, has been cooperating with investigators, doing dozens of interviews.
However, they haven’t yet positioned the shooter’s mom, Mary Grace Westman. Records show that her residence is in Florida, per NBC.
Now, a Fox News contributor on Outnumbered has slammed the mom’s silence, claiming law enforcement and the group are owed her cooperation.
The contributor, Tomi Lahren, added that the flip of occasions reminded her of the Gabby Petito case, in which Petito’s fiancé Brian Laundrie’s mother and father employed a prison protection attorney once news broke that he was the last particular person to see her alive.
Lahren said, “This feels odd. And it’s hard not to feel like it’s odd, to not even have an interview? I understand getting yourself an attorney because you want to protect yourself, and I think that that’s understandable. What’s not is not cooperating, especially with law enforcement.
“She doesn’t essentially owe us, the public, something, but you owe law enforcement one thing and you owe these households somehting, and I can’t help but assume, going back to the Gabby Petito case and Brian Laundrie’s household.
“I can’t help but think that when they were not cooperating with police but they immediately got a criminal defense attorney and they said, ‘You can talk to him, we’re not saying anything. We’re not going to talk about it.’

“This feels to me eerily related. I’m not saying she had any culpability. I’m sure she doesn’t; she was dwelling in another state. However, if you do really feel such as you need to get a protection attorney, you still need to cooperate with police.”
The contributor concluded, “You owe the group that a lot, and by her not doing that, I feel a lot of the empathy that all of you’re feeling for her, that’s going to dissipate in the public eye fairly shortly.”
Authorities often look to the families of mass shooters while investigating a motive. Following a 2021 shooting at Oxford High School in Michigan, the parents of shooter Ethan Crumbley were charged and convicted of involuntary manslaughter, per NBC.
James and Jennifer Crumbley were sentenced in April 2024 to 10 to 15 years in prison. Meanwhile, their son pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life in prison.
Investigators say that Westman was “obsessed with the concept of killing kids.”
The attacker “appeared to hate all of us,” the chief said on Thursday, adding, “More than something, the shooter wished to kill kids.”
Officials have not launched many particulars so far about the shooter’s background, but they’ve revealed that Westman beforehand attended the church’s college and that his mom had labored there.
