Gavin Newsoms Trainwreck Answer About Bidens | Political News
I’ve to admit it.
Every time I look at California Gov. Gavin Newsom, I believe of the stereotype of the slick car salesman. My colleague Jennifer Oliver O’Connell refers to him as “Gov. Hair Gel,” and it is so true. Moreover, the hand motions are worse than those of House Minority Leader, Democrat Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (NY-8). They can actually drive a particular person to distraction.
I believe you see all that, in spades, during his interview with Kristen Welker on NBC’s Meet the Press that aired on Sunday.
Welker requested him why he needed to be president, and Newsom claimed he did not.

“I don’t,” Newsom claimed.
“I’m not suggesting I am. It was in response to someone talked about it and I — nothing I dislike more than a politician that sits there and lies to you. And we all just sit there rolling our eyes going, “Give me a break.”
Can I say to that, “Give me a break, Governor?” He’s the guy who doesn’t want to confess he’s going to run, while doing everything to indicate he is. So it’s funny to hear him talking about other politicians lying and rolling their eyes, even as he tries to sell us this and rolls his eyes.
Then he tripped over another question from Welker. She asked if he ever had concerns about Joe Biden’s capacity.
The one exception, as it relates to the interplay I had with him, that gave me pause, one, was the fundraiser in Southern California. And all of us have been a little bowled over. But we also have been mindful that he had been in Europe twice in about a week, and for the grace of God go any of us with jet lag and being exhausted. That particular person got here back on that debate evening and that definitely gave all of us pause.
KRISTEN WELKER: If it gave you pause after the controversy why did not you sound the alarm then?
Newsom said he did “privately.”
Welker pressed a little more.
Gavin Newsom slithers around in an attempt to clarify why he’s defended Joe Biden’s capability to serve a second time period:
Welker: You stood by him until the end. Did you ever have issues about his capability to serve another 4 years?
Newsom: “I never had that.”
Welker: Did you… pic.twitter.com/VwpP06B5RP

KRISTEN WELKER: Governor, did you legitimately consider that he was succesful of serving as president until January of 2029?
GOV. GAVIN NEWSOM: Yeah, I believe my focus was, frankly, situational. It was making sure Donald Trump did not get back into workplace, to expertise every thing that we’re experiencing today. And there was no interplay I had that prompt in any other case.
KRISTEN WELKER: What do you say to Americans who really feel misled by you and other top Democrats –
GOV. GAVIN NEWSOM: Misled in what respect? He determined to step down–
KRISTEN WELKER: – about the mental acuity of President Biden, that they need you’d sounded the alarm sooner, to give means for an open conference.
GOV. GAVIN NEWSOM: I never skilled – look, I’m not going to substitute myself for another person or for fashionable opinion. I’m going to specific my relationship to my fact with the previous president of the United States, including at the end of his time period, fairly actually in December, which was a grasp class of international coverage and home coverage, which I’ll never overlook, as we stroll through not just the election but we’re strolling through the world we’re dwelling in. There was nothing to counsel what you just said or others have prompt in phrases of my interplay. That’s all I may be accountable for.
“Situational” – so beating Trump was the factor, not Biden’s acuity? Newsom says there was no interplay with Biden that “suggested otherwise” about Biden being succesful, proper after Newsom talked about the fundraiser and debate giving him pause. The gobbledegook car salesman rears his head. He needed to specific “his truth” about his relationship with Biden. Sorry, Gavin, there may be no “your truth” or “my truth,” only the reality. And it would not mirror effectively on Democrats.
And then what does it say if we may all see what you might be now claiming you did not? Any means you slice it, not good.
Then, Welker requested him why he thought Kamala Harris misplaced. His reply was fascinating because he did listing some true causes that people had points with her. Nice of him to level them all out.
I do not know. I’m reflecting on it. I believe time, we’ll have more of an understanding. We can start with inflation. We can speak with rates of interest. We do not speak about rates of interest enough. We may speak about incumbency. We may speak about Israel. We may speak about immigration and the border. We can go through a myriad of lists. We may speak about Joe Rogan. We may speak about woke. We may speak about the 107 days. We may speak about the shortage of an open major. We may speak about “The View.” Again, I’m on web page six of the 24 pages. And how you unpack that, how you stack that in phrases of every thing, I believe wants still a little bit more forensics, a little more analysis.
Of course, he did miss that she was a horrible candidate, popping out of an administration that had been a failure. So that’s a bit of a drawback.
Welker requested him about Harris showing to grouse in her guide about him not calling her back when she called for an endorsement after Biden dropped out of the race.
KRISTEN WELKER: In her guide, the previous vice president writes that she scrambled to attain outstanding Democrats hours after President Biden exited the race. And she said that you responded to her call, quote, by saying, “Gavin Newsom: ‘Hiking. Will call back.’ He never did.” Is that what occurred?
GOV. GAVIN NEWSOM: 100%. And I despatched out an endorsement in a few minutes after that. I used to be one of her first endorsements, the explanation she was calling. I’ve identified Kamala all my life. The last particular person she wants to attain out to is me. So, I realized the news, I needed to get in contact with the Biden people. I used to be out on an precise hike. I used to be like, “Kamala, you’ve got a million people to call,” and we have been actually working as she reached out. It was a voicemail, by the best way, unknown quantity, for the file. And as she was on to her next calls, we have been already on to our press release endorsing her. So, I do not even know why that was even in the guide.
Sounds like he was not precisely completely satisfied with that being put in the guide. However, he said he had identified her for years and indicated he wasn’t upset by it.
That’s going to be an fascinating interplay if they both leap into the 2028 race.
