Glenn Hughes has announced that he’s stepping away from touring to endure coronary heart surgical procedure. The Deep Purple vocalist, 74, shared a assertion on his Facebook web page revealing that he “has made the difficult decision to step back from live performances for the foreseeable future.”

The Rock’ n’ Roll Hall of Fame inductee explained that he has been dealing with some “health points” throughout the “past year,” which he’s now prioritizing. “The results from numerous MRIs, CT scans, and an echocardiogram have alerted my medical team, that I need another open-heart surgery,” Hughes said.

“I really have no option and no choice as health is my number one priority.” He went on to specific how he’s “grateful to have been chosen with a life full of the present of music” and concluded, “Thank you for walking beside me.” This announcement follows Ariana Grande’s latest resolution to take a break from the highlight.

Glenn Hughes initially rose to prominence as the bassist and lead vocalist of Trapeze, which he joined in 1969.
