Fans of Good Morning Britain had been left fuming as the ITV show announced Sir Keir Starmer‘s latest plans to sort out the migrant disaster. Ed Balls and Susanna Reid explained that The UK’s Prime Minister is contemplating introducing obligatory ID playing cards in the UK to help sort out the small boats disaster – but followers weren’t impressed.

Ed shared that there may be “clear pressure” for the main politician to discover options, as he added: “So, ID cards, once again, back on the agenda. We have been here before.” He then handed the report over to Louisa James, who said that Downing Street is “clearly desperate to show that they are doing everything that they can to find solutions”. She added that a spokesperson for Starmer said that they’re wanting for “anything that works”. The news correspondent continued: “The latest idea is looking again at digital ID cards. That was very much downplayed very recently when it was raised, but Downing Street has said that the debate has changed, and significantly, people’s expectations have changed.”

The reporter shared that ministers are now wanting at everybody in the nation having a “unique ID” card which can be utilized to show people are in the nation legally.

“If all of this sounds a little bit familiar, it’s because it is,” she added. “The last Labour government, Tony Blair and David Blunkett, wanted to bring in a national ID card, but in the end that was scrapped over concerns about the cost and civil liberties. But some people are saying that those concerns remain.”
