With the DP World Tour season drawing to a close, quite a few gamers have provided views on the golf rules that allow the top 10 rivals on the European circuit to secure their PGA Tour credentials, including Lee Westwood.

Laurie Canter made historical past as the first ex-LIV golfer to declare his Tour card, despite beforehand dealing with exclusion from all PGA Tour competitions. Canter secured this achievement through a T-2 efficiency in Korea, propelling him into one of the coveted 10 DP World Tour positions and motivating him to persevere through the rest of the marketing campaign.

“We play such a frustrating game and I feel like at the beginning of the year I felt like I had a lot of momentum and had it on a piece of string and since then it has been hard work,” Canter mirrored following his strong exhibiting.

“I have felt like I am paddling upstream for six to eight months. I fell out of the PGA Tour card race this week so that was on my mind.

“I needed to go to the Play-Offs and really feel like I’m not enjoying with a gun to my head completely, I can exit and embrace the prospect to go and get one of those playing cards.”

Canter participated in 20 LIV golf events spanning 2022 to 2024, competing in all seven tournaments during the debut season before serving as a substitute for 11 competitions in 2023.

He featured in the opening two events of 2024 before transitioning exclusively to DP World Tour action.

Westwood has now turned to social media to offer his congratulations to Canter while highlighting that such an outcome would have been impossible just 12 months ago due to the PGA Tour’s continuously evolving regulations. Significant rule changes have led to potential fines for golfers Tyrrell Hatton and Jon Rahm from the DP World Tour due to their participation in ‘conflicting’ LIV events.

Both Rahm and Hatton are appealing against these sanctions in an effort to maintain their Tour status. If successful, it could raise further questions for the DP World Tour and those who forfeited their membership to avoid penalties, including Westwood.

Westwood took to Twitter to voice his thoughts: “It’ll be attention-grabbing to see how the @DPWorldTour deal with @JonRahmOfficial and @TyrrellHatton,” he wrote.

“Their appeal must me due anytime now and it’s going to be attention-grabbing to see if their bans, fines, suspensions and constant with earlier one. Tricky time and selections coming up for the DPWT. Caught between a rock and a exhausting place.”
